General Information

Air Travel

With almost 30 airlines servicing more than 3,250 international and domestic flights each week, Brisbane and its international and domestic airport are the perfect facilities to cater for delegates for IMPC 2010.

With regular flights, from all major international airports, access to Brisbane has never been easier.

Airport/Hotel Transfers

With an efficient taxi, coach transfer and airtrain service servicing both the domestic and international terminals delegates are able to access the CBD of Brisbane easily and quickly once arriving in Queensland.

Private car transfers and hire car outlets are able to provide delegates with transport to and from their respective hotels. For more details, refer to:

Taxis

Dedicated taxi ranks are located at the international and domestic terminals. A typical trip to the city is around $38.00 (AUD).

Official Language

The official language of the Congress is English. No simultaneous interpretation is planned for this event.

Passport and Visa Support Letters

All visitors are required to have a valid passport and may need an entry visa (please check with your travel agent). A visa can be applied for, and issued from, the Australian Government representatives in major cities throughout the world. VISA support letters will only be issued to speakers/presenters, international committee members and registered delegates & students. All must have paid their registration fees in full (credit card payments previously cleared and authorised). No exceptions will be made. The Visa support letter is for individual use only and is not transferable.

The AusIMM will not issue blanket, group, or family letters. Please supply the following information to Event Management via: impc2010@ausimm.com.au at your earliest convenience:

  • Full Name, as shown on passport
  • Address, as shown on passport
  • Passport number
  • Nationality, as shown on passport
  • Arrival and Departure dates

Special Needs

Every effort is made to ensure people with special needs are catered for. Should you require any specific assistance, please include a notation with your registration form to enable us to make your visit to IMPC 2010 a pleasant and comfortable experience.

Smoking Policy

The Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre has a non-smoking policy throughout the entire venue.

Shopping

Generally Brisbane shops are open during the following hours:

Monday to Friday 9.00 am – 5.00 pm
Friday 9.00 am – 9.00 pm
Saturday 8.30 am – 4.00 pm
Shops in tourist areas (including CBD and Southbank) will be open on Sundays for limited trading hours.

Credit Cards

Credit cards are widely accepted at hotels, shops, restaurants and airlines. Commonly recognised cards include Visa, American Express, Mastercard and Diners Club. The only cards to be accepted at the Congress registration desk will be Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club and American Express.

Weather

Brisbane has a subtropical climate with temperatures at the time of the Congress a very pleasant 9-20°C (48-68°F). Brisbane has an average annual rainfall of approximately 1150 millimetres (45 inches) and 242 glorious days a year of sunshine. The standard time zone for Brisbane is UTC/GMT +10 hours.

What to Wear

Smart casual clothes are suitable for the Welcome Reception, Happy Hour and Farewell Function. Business attire / smart casual is the standard dress during the main congress daytime period. For the IMPC 2010 Congress Dinner the dress will be lounge suit.
